*NEW* Annual Photo Contest
Rules and Conditions
Thank you for choosing to participate in the first Annual Japan Center for Michigan Universities Photo Contest 2009! To enter, please read the rules and conditions of the contest below, complete an official entry form, and submit the form and your photos to the JCMU office at by 5:00 pm EST on November 1st, 2009.
Eligibility Requirements
Entrants must be current or past participants of a program at JCMU.
2009 Student entrants include individuals who attended JCMU during spring/winter semester, May, summer, and fall semester 2009. Photos entered into this category must have been taken during the duration of your program at JCMU.
Alumni entrants include individuals who attended JCMU prior to the spring '09 semester. Photos entered into this category may be submitted from your time at JCMU or any other trip to Japan.
Photos must be original work. By signing the entry form, you are stating that you own the photo you are submitting.
A maximum of two photos may be submitted per entrant. Photos may be color, black and white, or sepia. It is your artistic preference!
No prints of photos will be accepted, only digital images. Images should be a minimum size of roughly 1200 x 1500 pixels, depending on dimensions (about 5 MB at 150 ppi resolution).
Winners will receive a prize. One prize is allowed per entrant.
Procedure
After reading these rules and conditions, complete and sign an entry form, being sure to title each photo with a creative, but brief, phrase. Photos submitted without an entry form will not be entered into the contest. Be sure to get the permission of anyone pictured before you enter your photo!
Images and entry forms may be submitted:
- on compact disk and sent to JCMU, 110 International Center, East Lansing, MI 48824, OR
- attached to an email to jcmu@msu.edu
All files must be named, "lastname_title," for example, a student named Naosuke Ii with a photo titled Sunset Over Biwako would submit their file named: ii_sunsetoverbiwako. Be sure to keep a copy for yourself - images will not be returned!
Judges will select the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners and Honorable Mentions of two categories: '08/'09 Students and Alumni. JCMU Staff do not judge photos. Judges decisions are final.
Winners will be notified via email by December 31, 2009. Only one prize per entrant will be given.
Winning Criteria
Winning photos will be selected based on the best quality photos that are clearly identifiable as taken in Japan. Judges will be asked to choose photos that capture the essence of your experience abroad. Photos of students and alumni interacting within communities and/or showing an understanding of Japanese culture are strongly encouraged.
Copyright Policy
Rights are retained by the artist. However, by signing and submitting an entry form, you grant JCMU royalty-free use of your photo(s) for various marketing purposes, including printed and electronic publications. The artist will always be fully credited in publications and displays.
