Japanese Level 3
Course Description
This course is designed for students who have completed Level 2 successfully at JCMU or its equivalent, and possess the verbal skills to engage effectively in a wide variety of everyday situations, to read and write simple essays, and to discuss the content of such essays. Reading authentic materials, including short stories and newspaper articles, on a variety of topics will also be emphasized.
Course Objectives
By the completion of the course, students will be able to:
- talk about themselves and their experiences with fluency and to express their opinions on the various topics presented in the textbook and other materials;
- master a measurable amount of new vocabulary, colloquial expressions and grammatical structures;
- identify the total of 500 basic kanji as they appear in context;
- summarize (both orally and in written form) what they have read and heard and to carry on both formal and informal conversations with ease; and
- gain a wider appreciation of contemporary Japanese customs, culture and social phenomena.
