Discussion:

• Venue -- UWindsor campus on Friday, April 2, 2004, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. The Wayne-Windsor Symposium will be held (at WSU) on Thursday, April 1, 2004.
• Attendance -- In the past, the Roundtable has averaged 35-45 people. Steve thinks that attendees from UWindsor should boost the numbers to 55-70. Mike will review the mailing list and will make sure that Detroit-area institutions will be included.
• Luncheon Speaker -- the host institution chooses and funds the speaker. There was discussion of having the speaker address Michigan - Ontario or Canada - U.S. "mega" issues. Dennis pointed out that the 2005 Roundtable may be hosted by UMichigan which would highlight Great Lakes issues. Thus, it would be good if the 2004 & 2005 meetings could thematically dovetail.
• Funding -- the host institution has been responsible for the bulk of the costs but other institutions have helped out. Mike & John will see if their programs can contribute. Dennis suggested that the organizers of the 2004 Wayne/Windsor & the Roundtable submit a unified proposal to the Detroit Consulate with the reminder that the Canadian government prefers to support efforts that address current issues.
• Student Participation -- Steve and Tom felt that there would be a good contingent from UWindsor. John and Mike should insure that students from their schools should get the word. At this time, it was felt that student self-transport would be preferable to trying to organize vans.
• Special Events -- There was some discussion of the possibility of having a performance (session?) of Windsor folklorist Marcel Beneteau, compiler of the music series Vieles Chansons de Detroit.

• Session Topics -- As in the past, these topics will be listed on the registration form. The final selection will be based on the interest indicated by the registrants' preferences. The registration form will provide space for registrants to indicate aspects of the topics. For example:

  Great Lakes Issues: Invasive species
  Border Issues: Customs and Immigration

  Some current topics, such as same-sexed marriage, SARS, and border issues will probably be popular.
• Meeting Rooms -- John, Tom, Steve, and Mike examined the CAW Student Centre, a spiffy meeting site that was unavailable, and Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research. The consensus that the GLIER would work quite nicely, assuming parking is fairly straightforward.
• Based on the above, I've created a preliminary program.
